Photos from the Newest Trick In The Book

Last night we got together for the final performance of The Newest Trick In The Book. This show was created in 2016 to offer magicians of all skill levels a safe place to explore and experiment performing new material. Normally that task falls to parents, children and significant others. It was held at a number of different venues, a mixture of weekly and monthly events. It spent a brief time online as The Newest Trick in the MacBook for obvious reasons. I was on several times over the years and met some wonderful friends in the process.

Here are some photos from that final night.

(Don’t worry, the Toronto Magic Company isn’t going anywhere. They already have plenty of other projects lined up for the fall.)

The Newest Trick In The Book Returns

Wednesday night I’ll be appearing on The Newest Trick In The Book. This is a free event meant to be a safe space for magical experimentation and wizardly risk taking. Each of us will be attempting brand new material. (And if things don’t work out, never to be seen again material.)

You can reserve seats through the link below. Come out and have some fun. Also the bar is open.

We will be at the Royal Comedy Theatre, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 8:00 pm. (1051 Bloor Street West in Toronto.) Doors open at 7:45.

This weekend I appeared alongside Mark Clearview and The Sentimentalists (Mysterion & Steffi Kay) in a wonderful live comedy magic show hosted by Ben Train.

Ben shared his magical origin story. The Sentimentalists invaded the dreams of an unsuspecting audience member and Mark managed to complete one trick in twenty nine minutes. Thank you to everyone who came out to share some live magic and great laughs.

Magic at the Cathedral

Coming up later this month I’ll be appearing at Bar Cathedral along with Chris Westfall and Bella Magic. Advance tickets are now available online.

From the organizers:

Come join us at the legendary Bar Cathedral stage for an incredible night of magic and illusions. We have 3 of Toronto's finest magicians to perform for you, and you are sure to be amazed and entertained!

It's just $19 in advance and $25 at the door. We are able to keep costs lower due the generosity of Bar Cathedral in supporting local performers.

Your featured performers are:

Bella Magic: Bella has been traveling and working as a circus performer for the past 9 years all over the world. She headlined Canada's Wonderland Freakshow stage, performed private parties for Justin Bieber's father, juggled for Sean Penn, and assisted Fenyx Fyre on Canada's Got Talent. Her skills range from magic, juggling, sideshow stunts, and much more. Come see this amazing performer do what she does best!

James Alan: A professional magician based in Toronto, James is a magician and sleight of hand artist who has performed for large stages across Canada. He's been featured at the Summerworks Performance Festival, The Hamilton Fringe Festival and The Wychwood Theatre. He brings his “thought provoking, funny, astonishing and thoroughly entertaining” show to our stage, and we couldn't be more excited!

Chris Westfall: His high energy magic shows have earned Chris the reputation as one of Toronto's most popular magicians. You can expect lots of audience participation, and even more laughs and amazing illusions. Chris has performed all across Canada, has been featured in several publications, and won several magic competitions. You're sure to love his act, and we're VERY excited to have him on our stage.

This will be an entertaining, hilarious, and amazing evening. See you there!

Hocus Jokus

This Sunday, I’ll be appearing on “Hocus Jokus” at Yuk Yuk’s in Toronto alongside Mark Clearview, The Sentiementalists and Ben Train. Will it be a magic show? Will it be a comedy show? Unsurprisingly, it’s a trick question: It’s both.

Join us for an exciting evening of magic and comedy at one of Canada’s most celebrated comedy clubs. Tickets are now available online.
