Good Questions
-
We strive to schedule events on a first-come, first-served basis. The majority of our clients are planning 3-10 weeks ahead for smaller events and 2-6 months for larger events. Typically the last two weeks of November and first two weeks of December are in highest demand, so book your holiday parties as early as you can.
-
James is available to perform across Canada. In general, there are travel charges for events more than 100km outside of Toronto, with additional charges for events that require overnight travel.
-
There is a lot of flexibility. The most popular request we receive from professional event planners is 45 minutes, with the option of an encore.
A show can be as short as just one trick, or as long as 90 minutes. As a general rule, shows longer than 60 minutes need an intermission and comfortable chairs!
-
Magic can be done for two people, two hundred, or two thousand. More importantly, we divide our performances into formal and informal ones. If you have enough seating for all of your guests, a more formal structured show — 30, 45, or 60 minutes — is going to provide the most memorable, impactful experience. You start to actually need a stage (or riser platforms) at 80-100 people. We also created a more formal show specifically for smaller audiences — usually 8-15 people — so you can still have the impact of a stage show without the stage.
For events where you don't expect your guests to be sitting down — receptions, hospitality suites, networking events — we do a more informal style of mingling close-up magic.
-
If your event includes a sit-down meal, mingling magic works best before it, with the formal show afterward. Without a meal, timing is flexible — we can work around whatever schedule suits your event.
-
The technical requirements for a large audience show are quite modest. The minimum space is an area five feet wide and six feet deep with nothing in the room blocking the audience’s view, though more space means more possibility for audience interaction.
We are happy to provide the necessary sound equipment for audiences of up to 200 guests at no additional charge.
-
We call it “Magic for Grownups” for a reason. Performances are technically family friendly but we don't recommend them for children under fourteen. For younger and mixed audiences, we are happy to recommend suitable family entertainers.
-
Absolutely — we can swap in your tagline or reference your brand throughout a standard performance at no extra cost. Building an entirely new trick around a specific product is also possible, but it's a separate, custom-quoted project with its own lead time — ask us early if that's what you're picturing.
-
We offer a 40% discount to registered charitable organizations on performance fees. Generally there are no discounts on travel fees and expenses.
-
A 10% deposit is required to confirm your booking, and it's non-refundable.
If you cancel more than a week before your event, you won't owe anything further. If you cancel within a week of the event, the full performance fee is due.
If your plans change, I'm happy to offer one complimentary reschedule to a new, mutually agreeable date — just let me know more than a week before your original date.
In the rare case that I need to cancel (it’s actually never happened), you'll get a full refund, including your deposit.
