Performances

Last week on Magic Tonight

One of the joys of hosting a show is introducing the performers that appear on it. Of course it's only joyful when you have great talent to introduce. This past week, I had a blast. Here are some excerpts from the introductions I gave:

He has no setting between high and off. [1]

Mysterious doesn't even begin to describe him.

He is the devil; pure evil wrapped in Mr. Rogers' Sweater.

His performance of the mysterious vanishing camel earned him the attention of several major governments.

See if you can guess which one belongs to each performer.

This week on Magic Tonight

The magic never stops! It's a huge amount of fun, although I suspect I'm going to need a vacation soon. But coming up we have an amazing week, and not very many tickets left. Thursday night's performance at The Franklin House in Streetsville is already sold out! We have Nicholas Wallace (who was once described by me as appearing sweet and innocent to disguise the fact that he is the devil; pure evil wrapped in Mr. Rogers' sweater) and Jason Palter (winner of the Canadian Event Industry's "Entertainer of the Year" award).

Friday night at The Bear in Pickering, we have Mystery Entertainer Lukas Stark. We still have a few spaces left.

Sunday night in Toronto at the Crimson Lounge, we have the legendary Matt DiSero. Matt has been a popular contributor to Seventeen Secrets Volumes 1 and 2 and a controversial contributor to Ninety Nine Fabrications. He has performed around the world and has a kick-ass collection of shoes. This performance is nearly sold out as well.

Introducing Sketchy Magic

Coming in April to the Crimson Lounge (our traditional home for Magic Tonight) we're presenting a new kind of magic show. This is Sketchy Magic:

Created by Chris Westfall & Chris Mayhew, both incredibly funny performers in their own right, this new show blends magic with both improv and sketch comedy to create a unique live experience. It's incredibly exciting because you never know what will happen next. (And as someone who has worked with both of these guys before, trust me, anything can happen.) And it's unique because the participation from the audience makes it so that every show is a one-night-only event. Tomorrow things could turn out very differently.

Sketchy Magic is a full evening out with dinner and a hilarious show. Join us in Downtown Toronto for an unforgettable experience. Tickets are available at the Abracadabaret website (www.abracadabaret.com/purchase-tickets). Readers of this blog can use the code reality for a special discount on the price of tickets and dinner.

The show is entirely family friendly... almost... sort of... well... children may learn some new words in this show.

This week on Magic Tonight

This is a week of contrasts on Magic Tonight - a variety of styles... and heights! Of course, I'm referring to Canada's Tallest Magician, Brian Roberts performing on Sunday in Toronto, and Toronto's shortest magician Chris Westfall performing Friday in Pickering. Ken Margoe (Thursday - Mississauga) and I are also kind of tall, but don't even enter into this comparison. Come join us for some incredible (and vertical) magic this weekend.

This week on Magic Tonight

I'm incredibly excited. We have a special guest visiting this week (and spilling over into next week) from England. The legendary comic performer, Wes Zaharuk is a true artist and his work is truly an exhibition of the trans-mundane! Which is to say it's some pretty freaky stuff. We also have a dear friend, Ben Train. Ben doesn't normally perform for the public. He's normally consulting and creating magic for other magicians - now with a company dedicated to that aim, Five Academy.

Chris Mayhew is a comedic performer from Calgary who recently performed at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood.

Ben will be at the Franklin House in Streestville Thursday (Feb 12). Wes will be at The Bear in Pickering (Feb 13)and at The Franklin House the following Thursday (Feb 19).
