duct tape

The weirdest thing to ever happen to me on stage

For the past four years, I have been allowing members of the audience to blindfold me with duct tape (of various and assorted colours). Some would say that this strikes most of the audience as unusual and sends a rather strange message about what my personal boundaries might be. Admitting all that, nothing like this has ever happened to me before: (No spoilers, see for yourself, apologies for the poor video quality)

This was filmed at Magic Tonight If you would like to see what the whole trick actually looks like, in colour, you can watch it here.

Last time on Magic Tonight

Last night on Magic Tonight, I was joined by über special guest Nick Wallace. While he may appear on the surface to be sweet and charming and likeable, he is in fact the devil; pure evil wrapped in Mr. Rogers' sweater. As far as I know, he owns the soul of at least one person on staff at our shows and I doubt he's willing to stop there.

Magic Tonight will be on hiatus for the next little while. Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming shows.

We're up and running at our new location, just 400 feet from our old one, and we're loving the additional space. I was joined by comedy magician Chris Mayhew who recently returned from a tour across China with a new show which is replete with Mayhem.

2015 in Duct Tape

In 2012, the director of my one-person show, Lies, Damn Lies & Magic Tricks, James Biss,  had me over at his house for a party and was "encouraging" me to perform for the group. I asked if I could borrow some duct tape and he came back with, of all things, blue duct tape. I knew about grey and about black, but blue was news to me. I used that for my shows in 2012 & 2013 for the blindfold trick. In 2014, one of the bartenders at The Cage (which contains The Crimson Lounge) found a roll of Rainbow Duct shortly before World Pride in Toronto. So now whenever possible, I try to choose the duct tape I use to match the situation I'm in. I think this year I went a little bit overboard.

We used the rainbow roll all through the month of June to celebrate Pride. And for the Andy Kim Christmas Special, we found sparkling silver duct tape.

In case you're curious what all that duct tape is for, here is the trick on Rogers TV:

Last week on Magic Tonight

So my friend and colleague in magic, Chris Mayhew, was supposed to host while I was off organizing the Soulo Theatre Festival. When I asked how the show went, I was sent this photo. Apparently I need to have a little talk with Mr. Mayhew. IMG_2211Magic Tonight is performed weekly in Mississauga & Toronto. Last week on Magic Tonight

I had a wonderful time performing last week on Magic Tonight. Typically I have friends and guests on the show but this week I was flying solo. I got to do some material from my old one-man show, Lies, Damn Lies & Magic Tricks and develop some new material (there's a Playboy Magazine in there for some reason!) If you haven't seen the show, take a look at what goes on.
