Happy Halloween

Magicians are not generally very scary people. We're primarily entertainers. But sometimes, in order to be dramatic, we need to court danger and sometimes just be a little weird. So for Halloween this year, I took a look through our archives and assembled this collection of the magicians on Magic Tonight getting dressed up or just generally being strange and creepy. Enjoy!

Master Greydon Gilmore

It was brought to my attention late this afternoon that one of the performers on Magic Tonight, the handsomely dashing Greydon Gilmore, has awarded his Masters Degree in Neuroscience for his work on the effect of deep brain stimulation on spatiotemporal gait parameters in Parinkson patients. (I've read the thesis, it's pretty neat stuff.) He was quick to add that, going forward, I should be referring to him as "Master" whenever possible. Of course, I'm happy to do that, but fair is fair, so here to celebrate this day of academic triumph are two pictures he'd forgotten I had in my possession. Congratulations Master Greydon!

Last week on Magic Tonight

Sunday night on the show at the Crimson Lounge inside The Cage 292 in Toronto was almost but not quite entirely sold out. I was joined by Rob Testa, who's been appearing on the show for ages and recently returned from an extended holiday gallivanting across Europe. He returned with a strange shiny metal bolt through his chin which is rather unsettling. But then again, boys are weird. If you missed the show, take a look at what you missed. James Judd at Soulo in Toronto

This weekend, James Judd presented a series of one-person shows organized by Tracey Erin Smith at Soulo Theatre, his Mid-Career Retrospective as a sort of kick off for his upcoming tour in those United States I was a little busy this weekend performing elsewhere and pretending to be Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby (long story!) but I did manage to catch one fabulous and hilarious show Friday night and his storytelling workshop on Sunday afternoon. I now have things to read and stuff to work on.

The workshop was inspiring and informative. The more I do this, the more I realize that the shows I do are a strange hybrid somewhere between solo theatre and a Backstreet Boys concert.

And the shows, by all accounts were wonderfully well received. The social medias are atwitter.

Last week on Magic Tonight

Thank you to the wonderful people who came out to celebrate the oddly-named long-weekend with us on Magic Tonight. It was a packed house and we're grateful to everyone who braved the rain (which we desperately needed) to see the show. Our special guests was the irritatingly photogenic Keith Brown. Visiting all the way from London (Ontario), he presented highlights from his one-person show Exchange which has has spent the last few months Fringe-Festival-hopping with. Take a look and see what we got up to.

Last time on Magic Tonight

I feel like an announcer on the old Batman series... Last time on... except that Robin isn't tied up somewhere about to be fed to a pit of alligators? Oh well. It was hot outside and cool inside at the Crimson Lounge Sunday night. The wonderful Jason Palter was there and the audience was on fire. Actually, I think the audience was on something; extremely energetic and interactive. It's very rare to have an audience that's appreciative to the point of being irritating.

Also making a surprise cameo in a couple of the photos is Scott McClelland, the director of Carnival Diablo and The Paranormal Show, who happened to be in town. Here Scott can be seen in a rare non-creepy attire.
